Podcast: Mother's Day Edition

We discuss Maycember, mahjong, rollerblading, and chat with friend-of-the-show, Caroline, about her sober journey (12 years woot woot!) and the joys of Diet Coke.

Get MADD: 45 Years of Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) was founded in 1980 by Candace Lightner after her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender. What began as an idea at Lightner’s kitchen table grew into one of the most influential grassroots movements in the U.S., credited with helping pass over 1,000 laws related to impaired driving and saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Since its founding, alcohol-related traffic deaths in the U.S. have dropped by nearly 40%—a powerful testament to the impact of advocacy, awareness, and relentless organizing.

This Mother’s Day, as we honor the caretakers and protectors in our lives, it’s worth reflecting on a legacy built by mothers to keep all of us safe. But the work isn’t done—drunk driving remains a persistent threat. Consider donating to MADD to support their continued fight and the victims still affected by these preventable tragedies.

Bottoms Up: Put an Anklet On It

Nothing captures effortless, cool, summer-mom quite like an anklet. We’re obsessed with Jenny Bird’s collection. Wear solo or stacked, paired with homemade string bracelets from the kids, or adorned with beachy charms.

Blade Runner: Did Scooters Kill the Rollerblade?

We’re nostalgic for the feelings that came with rollerblading. One of us has a pair picked up on Poshmark, and does occasional (very occasional) rides through the neighborhood. The other one of us calls the end of roller blading a defining moment in her life (?!). But the question is: Why did rollerblades flame out so fast? The answer isn’t because they’re dorky, it has to be something else—right?

JFK Jr. blading through Central Park in the nineties.

On the pod, we float the theory that the Razor Scooter, which launched in 2000, dealt the final blow—but Rollerblade (the company) actually hit peak sales in 1996. So maybe their demise was already in motion. Either way, we say it’s time for a comeback. If you’re ready to slip into a pair of 21st-century blades, start here.

Last Call: It’s Tchotchke O’Clock

We tried to put together a hilarious round-up off the best Etsy wine mom tchotchkes, but nobody skewers that culture better than Aidy Bryant on SNL.
